2000 Chevrolet Impala Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Disconnection of the battery ground cable must be the first step before servicing or repairing the Oil Pan. First disconnect the A/C Compressor from its mounting bolts before repositioning it into its new location. Simultaneously secure the compressor. Set up the engine support fixture (J 28467-360) while raising the vehicle. Remove the right Exhaust Manifold's three-way catalytic converter pipe while draining engine oil from the system. Start by removing the Starter motor and unhook the wiring harness for the oil level sensor. Then disconnect the transaxle brace from the Oil Pan. Lower vehicle after removing lower nuts from transaxle mount and engine mount. Raise the engine by using the engine support fixture (J 28467-360) and separate the engine mount bracket together with its mount from the Oil Pan. A torque wrench adapter (J 39505) helps you first eliminate the right Oil Pan side bolts before moving to the left Oil Pan side bolts and the Oil Pan retaining bolts. Once these fasteners are removed, you can extract the Oil Pan and gasket while thoroughly cleaning the Oil Pan and engine block gasket surface. First apply sealant to both the engine block surface and rear main bearing cap then put in the Oil Pan Gasket followed by the Oil Pan itself. Begin with Oil Pan retaining bolts before adding the left Oil Pan side bolts and finishing by using the torque wrench adapter (J 39505) to attach the right Oil Pan side bolts. Install the engine mount bracket along with the engine mount to the Oil Pan. Next lower the vehicle then use the engine support fixture (J 28467-360) to lower the engine in position. You must install the transaxle mount lower nuts followed by engine mount lower nuts and transaxle brace to the Oil Pan. After installing the Starter motor the technician must reconnect the oil level sensor wiring harness before attaching the three-way catalytic converter pipe to the right Exhaust Manifold. The procedure ends with A/C Compressor and engine mount strut installation followed by new oil filling and battery ground (negative) cable reconnection after removing the engine support fixture (J 28467-360) and related adapters (J 28467-90A and J 36462-A).
