How to service and repair the timing chain on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?

On servicing and repairing the Timing Chain, first use crankshaft sprocket installer (J 38612) to install the crankshaft sprocket with prelube gm p/n 1052365 or an equivalent on the crankshaft sprocket thrust surface. Next, install the Timing Chain dampener and its bolts and tighten the Timing Chain dampener bolt to 21 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Position the crankshaft timing mark to the timing mark on the lower end of the Timing Chain dampener. Hold the camshaft sprocket and let the Timing Chain drop down and install it to the crankgear. Match the timing mark on the camshaft to the one on the top of the Timing Chain dampner so that the dowel in the camshaft will align with the dowel hole of the camshaft sprocket. Lastly, mount the camshaft sprocket to the camshaft using the mounting bolt and apply engine oil to the crankshaft and camshaft sprocket and tighten the bolt to 140 nm (103 ft. Lbs.).
