2000 Chevrolet Metro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2000 Chevrolet Metro?
A: Service and repair of the Brake Master Cylinder requires first picking out the master cylinder assembly with the reservoir before continuing. Start by taking out the snap ring on the master cylinder then remove the primary Piston stopper and cylinder cup along with the plate and primary Piston. After removing the master cylinder's bolt and washer you should remove the Piston stopper from the master cylinder. Appliy caution when using compressed air for secondary Piston removal because the Piston may discharge with dangerous force. Use dry compressed air to blow away the secondary Piston together with its spring seat and spring. Clean every area of the reservoir internally and externally before cleaning the master cylinder body and all of its internal components using brake fluid followed by dry compressed air drying. Check the reservoir container and its cap for any cuts and check the master cylinder body for signs of corrosion or scoring while replacing it if necessary. Replacement internal parts for the master cylinder come only as an entire Piston set therefore a complete replacement is required if any internal parts show signs of wearing out. A worn master cylinder must be replaced after inspecting its internal parts for wear. Clean brake fluid coats all parts before installation of the secondary Piston spring and secondary spring seat and secondary Piston into the master cylinder body. Place the primary Piston along with cylinder cup , plate and primary Piston stopper inside the master cylinder body . Compression of the pistons must be followed by snap ring installation while tightening the Piston stopper bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) with the pistons completely pushed in. Consequently, bench bleed the master cylinder and then reinstall both master cylinder assembly and reservoir onto the vehicle.
