How to replace the rear Trunk Lid Lift Support on 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?

Start by opening and supporting the rear compartment before working on the task. Press a flat-bladed tool under the binding components at each side of the strut surface on the rear compartment frame. Push down gently only when the liftgate/hood assist rod is completely in or out to prevent bending or hurting the part. Pull the rear compartment strut out of its position from the ball studs of the hinge and bring it out of the vehicle. Press the new rear compartment strut onto both ball studs of the hinge until it completely fits into place on top and bottom. Attach and secure both upper and lower strut retainers as you take off the support from the rear compartment.
