2000 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core in the auxiliary HVAC module on 2000 Chevrolet Suburban 1500?
A: Before replacing the Evaporator core in the auxiliary hvac module of suburban/yukon xl vehicles it is necessary to recover all refrigerant and drain engine coolant. Ascend your vehicle and untie the connecting lines (2,3) running from the heater system and (2,3) lines from air conditioning devices from underneath where the auxiliary hvac module resides. The replacement process begins by unscrewing the nuts which secure the auxiliary hvac module after which you must lower the vehicle while removing the right rear quarter trim panel together with the real time damping (RTD) module. The upper auxiliary air duct emerges from the headliner by first removing its fastener along with disconnecting electrical connectors. Reroute fastener (1) on the lower auxiliary air outlet while also removing the air distributor duct. Proceed by removing fasteners (2,4) of the rear auxiliary hvac module and position it on a work surface. Unfasten and remove the air temperature actuator combined with the heater core inlet-outlet pipe stud. To remove the heater core you first must separate the heater core pipe gasket from the module case before removing the heater core pipe retainer. After that you can take out the rear hvac module lower cover followed by the heater core clamp for extraction of the heater core. Continue using the rear hvac module air distributor duct gasket if it is in good condition before separating the vehicle's front case parts from its back sections to remove the Evaporator core. Check the Evaporator core and replace broken gaskets and seals at this time. During installation put the thermal expansion valve (TXV) on the new Evaporator core and place everything into the case after properly positioning the air distributor duct gasket together with temperature door assembly. Proceed with case half reassembly by installing the heater core and clamp followed by the lower cover then the heater core pipe retainer with gasket and stud on the bottom of the rear hvac module. Secure two bolts to install the air temperature actuator together with the auxiliary hvac module assembly to the vehicle (2,4). The installation process requires securing the air distributor duct while fastening it with the provided fastener along with attaching the lower auxiliary air outlet and its corresponding fastener and using a fastener to secure the upper auxiliary air duct. Plug in the electrical wiring and reposition the rtd module followed by the right rear quarter trim panel. The vehicle needs to be elevated to allow proper installation of nuts for the auxiliary hvac module which should receive a torque of 9 n.m (80 lb in). Connect the air conditioning lines (2,3) with nut to the auxiliary hvac module while tightening the nut to 16 n.m (142 lb in), and after that install the heater lines (2,3) underneath the vehicle. After removing the safety stands users should lower the vehicle to access the engine coolant area before adding fluid and checking the refrigerant pressure.
