2000 Chevrolet Tracker Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How should you replace battery cables on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Choose battery cables that perfectly match the specs of the first set including wire design and type along with the cable size and length. Check if positive (+) cables need additional feed wires and if negative (-) cables have extra ground leads during selection. Put the new cable through the same paths as the old one. Both battery attachment points get treated as one interconnected connector unit. You need to disconnect the negative Battery Cable from the negative terminal before moving on to take out the positive Battery Cable from the positive terminal. Uninstall the ground bolt from the bulkhead unit and the harness holders. First take out the three bolts and Fuse Box from the right inner fender followed by freeing the two bolts and battery positive wires from the Fuse Box while noting the proper placement of the wires. Take off the bolt and harness clamp at the right Engine Mount before removing the nut and battery positive wire from the generator followed by the nut and battery positive wire from the Starter. Uninstall the Starter upper bolt and grounding wire before removing the battery harness from the vehicle. Reconnect the battery harness within its designated position. Then attach the Starter upper mounting bolt and ground wire. Fasten the Starter battery positive wire with the nut and join it to the terminal. Then attach the generator terminal and its nut to the battery positive wire. Use the bolt to fasten the harness clamp to the right Engine Mount and wire the battery positive connections into the Fuse Box according to its routing. Reinstall the Fuse Box in its proper place at the right inner fender and bolt it down using three fasteners. Connect the ground wire assembly to the bulkhead and install the harness retainer ends. Begin with the positive Battery Cable to its terminal and the negative Battery Cable to its terminal. Tighten both cables to 15 n.m (11 lb ft).
