2000 Chevrolet Tracker Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the front harmonic balancer on 2000 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Start your Harmonic Balancer service and repair by obtaining the following tools: pinion flange holder (J8614-01). Start your work by taking off the cooling fan Drive Belt, accessory Drive Belt, and cooling fan in this sequence. It is important to carefully dismantle the Radiator to avoid breaking the A/C Condenser when installed. You need to attach the pinion flange holder (J8614-01) to eliminate Crankshaft rotation before you detach the Harmonic Balancer retaining bolt. A technician can hold the Crankshaft with either a Flywheel lock through an access hole or pinion flange holder devices (J8614-01). Reapply chassis grease gm p/n 1051344 or equivalent to both the Harmonic Balancer front seal and its sealing surface after you remove the Harmonic Balancer. Position the Harmonic Balancer onto the Crankshaft with absolute precision in terms of its keyway orientation. Use the pinion flange holder (J8614-01) as you install the Harmonic Balancer retaining bolt to stop Crankshaft rotation before torquing the bolt to 150 nm (109 ft. Lbs.). The maintenance sequence includes reinstalling the components in reverse order: radiator followed by accessory Drive Belt then cooling fan Drive Belt and concluding with the cooling fan.
