2000 Chevrolet Venture Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair a shock absorber on 2000 Chevrolet Venture?
A: The Shock Absorber servicing requires starting with a vehicle lift and rear axle suspension followed by support. The air tube connector should be disconnected from the Shock Absorber when automatic level control is present on the vehicle. Start by removing the Shock Absorber upper bolt and its nut component before proceeding to uninstall the lower bolt and its nut and finally removing the Shock Absorber. After placing the Shock Absorber correctly position its bolts and nuts before tightening them to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.). Following automatic level controller reconnection to the Shock Absorber proceed by taking away rear axle support before lowering the vehicle. Dispose of gas charged shock absorbers carefully since their high pressure gas requires you to refrain from removing the snap ring near the tube top to stay safe. Safety glasses should be worn before performing any centerpunching or drilling tasks on the Shock Absorber so that tube puncturing can be avoided. Secure the Shock Absorber into a vise horizontally by extending the rod fully while using a centerpunch to make a 10 mm (0.4 inch) elongated opening from the tube's bottom. Use a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit on the centerpunch location to create a hole allowing gas or gas/oil mixture to escape during the process when using shop towels for oil containment. Use shop towels to contain oil as you punch a second centerpoint in the middle of the tube before drilling a hole at this position. After removing the Shock Absorber from the vise position it horizontally over a drain pan with holes facing downwards while performing rod movements to complete the oil drainage.
