2000 Chevrolet Venture Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the tie rod end on 2000 Chevrolet Venture?
A: The Tie Rod End requires the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) among other necessary tools for service. The ball stud nut needs removal while discarding both pickle fork and wedge type tools which could potentially harm the seal and bushing. A professional should use the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to disconnect the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle. The service starts with unfastening the tie rod jam nut before removing the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod. The installation process requires you to join the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod but resist tightening the jam nut. On the other hand the outer tie rod must be secured to the Steering Knuckle with a clean fastener that does not contain rust and develops 2 nm torque (18 inch lbs.) until it seats properly before replacing it. Install the tie rod ball stud nut by applying 30 nm torque followed by turning it an additional 120 degrees for a total of 2 flat surfaces. Check that between 2.5 to 4.5 threads on the Tie Rod End extend beyond the tie rod nut nylon. Check and fix the toe if required when inspection is complete.
