2000 GMC Jimmy Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the left exhaust manifold on 2000 GMC Jimmy?
A: Before changing the left Exhaust Manifold begin by removing the air cleaner outlet duct from the Throttle Body followed by the intermediate Steering Shaft extraction. The technicians must first disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve inlet pipe which leads to the Exhaust Manifold. The first step includes removing both the radiator inlet hose support bracket and nut followed by the nuts securing the secondary air injection (AIR) pipe from the Exhaust Manifold. First disconnect the Exhaust Pipe from the Exhaust Manifold after raising the vehicle and removing the air pipe alongside its gasket. First the vehicle needs lowering to its proper position while the front tire gets removed before the fender wheelhouse extension must be removed. You can disconnect Spark Plug Wires by entering the wheelhouse opening then remove all Exhaust Manifold bolts before removing the stud. First lower the vehicle and remove the Exhaust Manifold alongside Spark Plug wire shields from the engine space while cleaning all gasket contact points. The installation requires the sub-assembly of bolts with Spark Plug wire shields and new gaskets onto the Exhaust Manifold while Exhaust Manifold bolts must remain held by gasket tabs. After placing the Exhaust Manifold near the engine position from under the hood you should raise the vehicle for installing the Exhaust Manifold through the wheelhouse opening. The installation requires the placement of Spark Plug wire connections to spark plugs as well as fender extension and front tire assembly. Rise the vehicle again to connect the Exhaust Pipe with the Exhaust Manifold and finally lower the vehicle. The Exhaust Manifold can be connected to the egr valve inlet pipe via 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) of torque pressure on the egr valve inlet pipe nut followed by installation of the ect sensor electrical connector. Place the air pipe on the Exhaust Manifold alongside a new gasket before securing the air pipe nuts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Then tighten the radiator inlet hose support bracket with its nut reaching 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). To complete the installation you should set the air cleaner outlet duct and intermediate Steering Shaft at the Throttle Body.
