2000 GMC Jimmy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the thermostat on 2000 GMC Jimmy?
A: As a first step in servicing and repairing the Thermostat you should drain the necessary coolant from the Radiator. Begin by removing both the air outlet duct and the throttle body bracket. To begin installation start by removing the Thermostat Housing mounting bolts and taking the housing off the lower Intake Manifold before setting it aside. Take off the gasket or o ring and the coolant Thermostat before cleaning all sealing surfaces from both the lower Intake Manifold and coolant outlet. All installation components must receive thorough cleaning because this prevents leaking at the joints. Install the coolant Thermostat along with a new gasket or o ring before placing the Thermostat Housing onto the lower Intake Manifold positioning the gasket or o ring correctly. Secure the Thermostat Housing mounting bolts at 19 nm of torque (14 ft. Lbs. Torque). Install the throttle body bracket and complete the cooling system with correct coolant before you install the air outlet duct. After engine startup check for leaks in all sealing areas.
