Disassembly of the Transfer Case involves first removing the front propeller shaft then taking out the exhaust crossover pipe. Start the front output shaft seal replacement by removing both the inner sleeve of the seal before proceeding to the outer portion. You can install the new seal through the use of either the j 43484 front output shaft seal installer (used for midyear 1999 and later seals) or the j 35870 front output shaft seal installer (designated for start of production to midyear 1999). The installation requires applying dexron iii oil gm p/n 12346143 to the seal mating surfaces and keeping the seal properly aligned while positioning it. Verify the oil level of the Transfer Case after seal installation then add more oil if needed. Afterward you need to replace the front propeller shaft and exhaust crossover pipe before lowering the vehicle.
