2000 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the water pump on 2000 GMC Safari?
A: To work on the Water Pump start by cooling the engine first and drain the coolant from the Radiator. Take out the air filter assembly the maf sensor and the upper fan protection part. You must remove the Drive Belt before taking out the fan and Fan Blade clutch parts. Loosen and take off coolant pump pulley bolts then remove the pulley from its position. Disconnect the clamps and bypass hoses from both the coolant pump and Radiator. Remove the four coolant pump bolts and take out the pump while checking the gasket surfaces for damages and burrs. Check all components and put new ones in place if needed. Insert coolant pump gaskets first and bolt the pump into place using 45 nm torque before fastening the four bolts to 33 ft. Lbs. Join both coolant components to their housing and fastening clamps and fit the Radiator Hose to the coolant pump. Fasten the coolant pump pulley using a torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Put back together the fan and fan blades through their mechanical connection plus the Drive Belt and Fan Shroud upper assembly with bolts. Install both the maf sensor and air cleaner assembly in their proper places. Complete the process by adding coolant to the Radiator followed by engine startup and leak inspection when the engine reaches its normal temperature.
