Q: How to Replace an Alternator on 2000 GMC Savana 3500?
A: First disconnect the battery negative cable, followed by the removal of the shirt diameter of the Coolant Reservoir, air cleaner assembly, engine cover, engine oil and transmission fluid level indicators, then the screw securing mix to the tube oil level indicator and transmission fluid fill tube to the oil of the tube bottom. Next, remove the upper part of the oil level indicating tube, the nut that holds the transmission fluid fill tube to the back of the right head of the cylinder, and the upper part of the transmission fluid fill tube. Remove the screw fixing the oil fill tube to oil fill tube to lower support and oil fill tube itself, followed byquit the bolts supporting the heater outlet and inlet hoses to oil fill tube lower support. Lift off the engine wiring harness retainer from the stud on the oil fill tube lower support; remove the stud and bolt from the oil fill tube lower support; and remove the oil fill tube lower support. Go ahead and remove the upper Fan Shroud, drive belt from the generator, generator mounting bolts, and the generator from the engine, cautioning to disconnect the electrical connectors. For install, connect the electrical connectors to the generator and tighten the terminal nut generator output (BAT) to 18 n.m (13Ib ft). Mount the generator onto the engine and fasten it together using the mounting bolts of the generator bolted on, and with the front mounting bolts tightened to 50 n.m, the rear mounting bolt to 25 n.m, and so forth. Regenerate the belt drive back to the generator and the top Fan Shroud. Then, press on the oil fill tube lower support, bolt, and stud while tightening them to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Reattach the engine wiring harness retainer on the stud before and then the heater inlet and outlet hose brackets and bolts to the oil fill tube lower support by turning heater hose bracket bolts to 5 n.m (44 lb in). Put the oil fill tube into the right valve rocker arm cover, tighten it with the screw to the oil fill tube lower support, and install transmission fluid fill upper tube with the lower tube, tightening the nut from the transmission fluid fill tube to the rear of the right cylinder head at 10 n.m (88 lb in). Seal area (GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent) on the area of the oil level indicator tube where it goes into the lower section and then install upper section to the lower one. Secure the oil level indicator tube and transmission fluid fill tube onto the oil fill tube lower support using the bolt, tighten to 5 n.m (44 lb in). Lastly, put on the engine oil level gauge indicator and transmission fluid level indicator, relay on the engine cover, install the air cleaner assembly, coolant reservoir and reconnect the battery negative cable.
