2001 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Flywheel on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: To service and repair the flex plate, one must first remove the transaxle and take off the eight bolts holding the Flywheel onto the Crankshaft flange and discard the bolts. Then separate the Flywheel and check the Crankshaft mating surfaces for burrs and after that clean the engine Flywheel and inspect it. For installation, install the Flywheel first and then install the new Flywheel bolts and tighten the bolts to 15nm (11 ft lbs) and use the torque angle meter (J 36660) to introduce an additional 50 degrees to tighten the bolts. After, mount the dial indicator set (J 8001) to the engine block and take the Flywheel runout at all the three attaching bosses while ensuring that the Crankshaft end-play is held in one direction during the check. The runout of the Flywheel should not be over 0.381 mm (0.015 inch). In case the runout is out of spec take a light tap on the high side using a mallet to correct it and replace the Flywheel when ever the runout cannot be corrected. Finally, reinstall the transaxle.
