2000 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Flywheel on 2000 Buick LeSabre?
A: A correct service and repair of the flex plate must begin with vehicle lifting then proper support installation. The service begins by removing the transmission along with subsequent bolt removal from where the Flywheel links to the Crankshaft flange until the bolts become unusable. Check the Flywheel under direct observation for broken or worn teeth and cracks before getting a replacement if needed. A check for burrs should be conducted on both Crankshaft and Flywheel mating surfaces. The j 36660-a (Torque Angle Meter) must be used to install the Flywheel and new Flywheel bolts which must reach torque of 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) followed by a second increment of 50 degrees. Use the j 8001 (Dial Indicator Set) to check the Flywheel runout on the three engine block bosses by maintaining the Crankshaft end-play in a fixed direction. Check the Flywheel runout value because any reading higher than 0.381 mm (0.015 inch) requires either hit corrections with a mallet on the high side of the Flywheel until proper alignment is achieved or replacement of the Flywheel in cases where the runout cannot be fixed. Position the transmission into the vehicle then lower the car.
