2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Pressure Plate Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the pressure plate on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: The transmission service procedure must begin before performing Pressure Plate maintenance. Chassis service should be conducted by opening the clutch cover bolts in a controlled manner to decrease spring pressure. Afterward remove the clutch cover followed by the Clutch Disc. Position the heavy stamped x on the Flywheel assembly next to the paint-marked light side of the clutch cover. Support the clutch cover to the Flywheel assembly through the use of clutch alignment arbor (J29074). Expand each of the clutch cover to Flywheel bolts using the specified tightening sequence before applying torque up to 20 nm (16 ft. Lbs.) followed by an additional rotation of 45 degrees to achieve the specified torque values. Complete the procedure by removing j29074 clutch alignment arbor then apply gm p/n 12345777 or equivalent lubricant inside the bearing before returning the transmission into place followed by hydraulic bleeding and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
