2001 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: First check brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before starting the repair. No fluid needs to be drained when the fluid is at the midway point but when it reaches the top mark you should lower it to the mid-level. Place the vehicle on jack stands and take off the wheel and tire assembly from it. Keep the rotor secured to the hub by fitting a wheel lug nut tightly onto a wheel stud. A large c-clamp placed over the brake caliper body pushes the piston backward using the caliper ends against its rear and an old Brake Pad or wood block against the piston. Tighten the clamp until the piston moves through the brake rotor's space. Set down the c-clamp after unbolting guide pin accessories from the brake caliper. Use mechanic's wire to keep the caliper steady during brake hose protection from harm. Check Brake Pad retainers after removing the caliper from its bracket and both parts from the caliper bracket. Look for damage on the caliper slide boots then replace them when needed. Position a large c-clamp on the caliper in a downward motion to push down the caliper piston before removing the clamp with the original Brake Pad. Position the Brake Pad wear sensor properly as you put back Brake Pad retainers and new brake pads into their places. Connect the brake caliper to its bracket while installing guide pin bolts. Tighten them evenly to 31 nm but stay below 23 ft. Lbs. Put the tire and wheel back and drop the vehicle. Step on the Brake Pedal when the engine is off and maintain a 2/3 push before releasing it slowly. Push the Brake Pedal while performing this sequence until you reach a strong brake feeling which sets the brake caliper pistons correctly. Complete the brake master cylinder reservoir with the right fluid while executing Brake Pad and rotor surface preparation.
