• Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?

  A: To remove the lower Intake Manifold, disconnect the battery ground cable and take off the upper Intake Manifold first, then remove the left and right valve Rocker Arm covers. Unplug the engine coolant temperature wiring harness, plug the Fuel Injector and manifold air pressure wiring harness, and remove the fuel pipe clip bolt. Remove thefeed and return pipe from the fuel inyector rail and remove the fuel pipe clip along with the Fuel Injector rail. Move the Power Steering Pump and remove the heater inlet pipe and radiator inlet hose as well as remove the Thermostat bypass hose. Remove the engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, water outlet, thermostat, and lower Intake Manifold bolts before removing the lower Intake Manifold itself. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods, along with the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals, and clean all of the gasket and seal surface areas. For installation, apply the gm part nos 12345739 sealer at the engine block-to-lower Intake Manifold mating surface, making sure the surface is between 2.0 and 3.0mm wide and between 3.0 and 5.0mm thick and place the new lower Intake Manifold gaskets and install the rocker arms and pushrods. Prop the lower Intake Manifold slightly open and apply sealer gm p/n 12345382 on the lower Intake Manifold bolt threads, then install the lower Intake Manifold, tightening the vertical bolts to 7nm and then 13nm, diagonal bolts to 7nm then 25 nm. Reinsert the heater inlet pipe and nut that should be threaded in with a 25 nm torque exerted on the nut, and also the Thermostat, water outlet bolts, and engine Coolant Temperature Sensor that should be torqued 23 nm. Let the Thermostat bypass hose, radiator inlet hose, and heater inlet pipe with hose be connected to the lower Intake Manifold. Replace the Power Steering Pump, fuel injector rail and connect fuel return and feed pipes fastening the fuel pipe clip and bolt to 8nm. Lastly, join the Fuel Injector and the manifold air pressure wiring harness, engine coolant temperature wiring harness, and reinstall the valve Rocker Arm covers, as well as the upper Intake Manifold to reconnect the battery ground cable.
