2000 Chevrolet Impala Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: You should begin by disconnecting the battery ground cable before you start work on the replacement. Remove the upper Intake Manifold first before removing both left and right valve Rocker Arm covers. Engine coolant temperature (ECT) wiring harness requires disconnecting first followed by disconnecting the Fuel Injector and manifold air pressure (MAP) wiring harness. First remove the fuel pipe clip bolt and the fuel pipe clip. Next disconnect the fuel feed pipe and fuel return pipe from the Fuel Injector rail before removing the Fuel Injector rail. Lift out the Power Steering Pump from its front engine cover location before placing it to the side. Begin by removing the heater inlet pipe with heater hose from the lower Intake Manifold and reposition then disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the engine and the thermostat bypass hose from the thermostat bypass pipe and lower Intake Manifold pipe. Preform lower Intake Manifold bolts removal followed by complete lower Intake Manifold extraction including valve rocker arms and pushrods and replacement of lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals. Degrease the gasket and seal contact areas on cylinder heads alongside engine block and lower Intake Manifold before removing remaining rtv sealer residues. During lower Intake Manifold replacement you must take out the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, water outlet bolts, and water outlet component while also potentially removing the thermostat. Thermostat installation must precede the water outlet assembly which needs bolt installation afterward before placing the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor with a 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.) torque setting. Install both lower Intake Manifold gaskets with valve rocker arms and pushrods before you install the lower Intake Manifold using new lower Intake Manifold bolts. Torque specification requires a two-stage installation procedure: follow this order for lower Intake Manifold bolt torques: first engage the vertical middle bolts to 7 nm (62 lb in), then increase to 13 nm (115 lb in), and move to the diagonal end bolts which need 7 nm (62 lb in) initial tightness followed by 25 nm (18 lb ft). The lower Intake Manifold receives installation of the thermostat bypass hose alongside the radiator inlet hose and heater inlet pipe with heater hose. Begin by reinstalling the Power Steering Pump followed by the Fuel Injector rail and fuel return pipe and fuel feed pipe to the Fuel Injector rail. Finish by connecting the fuel pipe clip with its bolt which requires 8 nm (71 inch lbs.) torque setting. Reinstall right and left valve Rocker Arm covers together with upper Intake Manifold and reattach battery ground cable before you finalize your work.
