2001 Chevrolet Lumina Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Lumina?
A: Before starting upper Intake Manifold replacement disconnect the battery ground cable and vacuum hose from the Throttle Body air inlet duct. Detach the wiring harness of the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor before you take off the Throttle Body air inlet duct and execute the engine coolant drain. Move the accelerator control and cruise control cables with bracket out of the Throttle Body and disconnect all wiring harness connectors from this assembly especially the throttle position (TP) sensor and idle air control (IAC) valve. The maintenance procedure requires disconnecting left front Spark Plug Wires alongside the camshaft position (CMP) sensor wiring harness and left-hand plug wire harness and engine wiring harness attachment clips. First remove the coolant pipe Throttle Body connecting nut before cutting the throttle bypass pipe hoses and taking off the engine mount struts. To access the engine, rotate it forward then detach right spark plug wire retaining clips until Spark Plug Wires can be taken off from the coil pack. Disconnect the ignition coil bracket while taking its coils as well as the purge solenoid and vacuum canister solenoid with all their associated vacuum lines and electrical connections. Achieving access to the manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor and upper Intake Manifold first remove the vacuum hose and then uninstall the bracket and MAP Sensor. Cut the emission control vacuum harness and vacuum hoses that connect to the upper Intake Manifold where they service the vacuum booster hose, automatic transaxle vacuum modulator hose, heater and air conditioning vacuum source hose, and Fuel Pressure Regulator. Start by removing three components: the Drive Belt together with front and rear generator braces and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. Uninstall the right and left-hand bolts on the upper Intake Manifold before you remove the upper Intake Manifold with its gasket. When changing upper intake manifolds users need to detach the Throttle Body and wipe degreaser across the manifold seal surfaces. Installation requires Throttle Body placement followed by upper Intake Manifold gasket insertion and lastly the upper Intake Manifold. Start by loosely installing the left and right-hand upper Intake Manifold bolts and studs until torque reaches 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Secure the EGR Valve followed by rear and front generator braces before connecting vacuum hose connections to the upper Intake Manifold. Run the emission control vacuum harness and place the MAP Sensor with its bracket before connecting the vacuum hose between the sensor and upper Intake Manifold. Place the ignition coil bracket with its coils mounting the purge solenoid along with the vacuum canister solenoid and spark plug wire retainers and plug wires in position at the ignition module. First reposition the engine while you put the engine mount struts in place before connecting the thermostat bypass pipe coolant hoses to the Throttle Body and securing the coolant pipe nut. After completing cmp sensor harness, left-hand spark plug wire harness, and engine harness connection clips you should attach left-hand Spark Plug Wires together with wiring harness connectors to the Throttle Body. The cooling system requires engine coolant before the Throttle Body receives the accelerator control and cruise control cables with bracket. Then install the Throttle Body air inlet duct and connect the wiring harness to the iat sensor before reattachment of the battery ground cable.
