2001 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake pads on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Before starting Brake Pad replacement check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level and reduce it if needed when it falls between maximum and minimum points at half mark. Rise up the vehicle and maintain it stable before taking out the tire and wheel assembly. You should hand tighten two wheel lug nuts to fix the rotor to hub before removing the brake caliper. Unfasten the brake pads from their position inside the caliper bracket and remove both retainer slides. Check the disc brake hardware and mounting as well as the caliper dust boot for breakage. Replace all damaged components when found. Replace all parts during caliper install when you find corrosion damage either on bolt or pin components. Put the Piston into the caliper chamber at the bottom by pressing with a wooden block or Brake Pad as prevention for boot and Piston damage. Fit the two sliders onto the caliper bracket so they rest at the top of the inner pad as the wheel rotates forward. First install the pads onto the caliper bracket then remove the two hand-tightened wheel lug nuts and install the caliper. Put back the tire wheel assembly and let the vehicle down. Apply the brake pedal slowly when the engine stays off and stop when it reaches about 2/3 of its range before releasing. Maintenance time should be 15 seconds for each process until brake pedal assuring. Finish by pouring brake fluid in the master cylinder to its required position before running brake pads across the rotor surface.
