How to replace the Return Power Steering Hose on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?

The first step to change the power steering return hose starts by removing the Drive Belt from the Power Steering Pump pulley. Start by removing the retainer nut of the Power Steering Hose then take off its retainer before detaching the power steering return hose from the Power Steering Pump. The service technician should raise the vehicle on a hoist while removing the return hose first from the retainer and secondly from the power steering gear before extracting the return hose completely from the vehicle. Installations start with attaching the power steering return hose to the vehicle by maintaining a hose alignment that excludes twists and follows fastening protocol. Screw the return hose into position on the power steering gear at 27 nm torque. Start by attaching the return hose to the retainer and lower the vehicle before connecting the return hose to the Power Steering Pump while tightening the fitting to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Mount the retainer with its hosed part before tightening the retainer nut up to 5 nm (45 inch lbs.). The Power Steering Hose must have sufficient room from the Exhaust Manifold before reattaching the Drive Belt to the Power Steering Pump pulley. Operators must also perform air bleed operations on the power steering system.
