How to replace the timing chain, variable timing sprocket, or timing chain tensioner on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?

Remove the engine front cover to replace the timing chain, sprockets or tensioner. Position the camshaft sprocket at the timing mark while the piston number one is at top dead center. Remove the timing chain and camshaft sprocket. Pulling crankshaft sprocket with puller. Mounting parts, checking alignment and tightening bolts to specification. Put the engine front cover back into place.
