2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Begin replacement by first taking off the left instrument panel insulator then disconnecting the stoplamp switch electrical connector from the switch. Remove the retaining clip and disconnect the Brake Booster pushrod from the Brake Pedal by using the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-B). Begin by emptying part of the cooling system fluids before taking off the cross vehicle brace and the air cleaner inlet duct. Step one is to release fuel system pressure and detach the evap canister purge valve pipe and both fuel feeds and returns for safe keeping. Disconnect both heater outlet and engine inside drain hoses and take off the heater inlet tube. Turn the engine toward the front position for easier maintenance and detach the brake fluid gauge power connector. Disconnecting the brake pipes from the master cylinder does not need to be done to service the bpmv. Set the master cylinder aside after removing its two nuts and handtools. Take the vacuum hose with check valve from the Brake Booster then reconnect the three parts together. Press the Brake Booster tab with a flat blade while rotating the booster counterclockwise using the j22805-b power Brake Booster holder through its connection at the master cylinder nuts to remove it. Turn the Brake Booster clockwise on the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-B) with ratchet action to mount it on the cowl while avoiding the Brake Booster locking tab. Place the master cylinder onto the booster and attach the master cylinder retaining nuts before tightening them to 25 inches-pounds (18 ft. Alternating). Connect the Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connector while placing the engine back to its natural position and put on the mount struts for the left and right. Else put back the coolant bypass hoses and reconnect the pipes for heating air inlets, evap canister purge valve, fuel supply, and fuel return. Put all pieces together by adding the air cleaner inlet duct and cross vehicle brace then filling the cooling system while connecting the Brake Booster pushrod to the pedal and installing its retaining clip. After that attach the stoplamp switch electrical connector and return the left instrument panel insulator.
