2001 Chevrolet Tracker Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 2001 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Every operation to replace a Power Steering Pump must begin with removing the A/C Compressor from vehicles that have this feature. Clean the pump housing entirely before taking off the hoses while putting a drain pan beneath the Power Steering Pump to trap any fluid release. Start by disconnecting the Power Steering Reservoir outlet hose from the pump then remove the reservoir together with its attached outlet hose. The fitting of the pump must then be detached before extracting both gaskets and the power steering gear inlet hose away from the pump. The Power Steering Pressure Switch connector should be disconnected before removing the Drive Belt that powers the pump. The vehicle requires removal of the Power Steering Pump through disconnection of its two bolts before extraction. Users should insert the Power Steering Pump back into the vehicle before tightening the 2 bolts to 25 nm (18.5 ft. Lbs.). Connect the Power Steering Pressure Switch connector before installing all components including the power steering gear inlet hose , its gaskets, and fitting on the pump while tightening the fitting to 60 nm (43.5 ft. Lbs.). You should reinstall the power steering fluid reservoir while attaching its reservoir outlet hose to the Power Steering Pump by using a hose clamp for security. Reinstall the A/C Compressor whenever such a system exists on the vehicle. Place the Power Steering Pump Drive Belt into position and adjust its fitment for necessary tightness. You must add power steering fluid to the reservoir after which you need to perform power steering bleed to achieve proper operation.
