    A: Replacement of heavy-duty suspension upper ball joints starts with tool acquisition which includes a Ball Joint separator (J 23742). Ball Joint separator (J 23742). Base your work on these steps: elevate the vehicle using safety stands while supporting the lower Control Arm at the same time. First dismantle the brake caliper then remove wheel and tire. Detach the nut and bolt which fasten the wheel speed sensor harness bracket to the upper Control Arm. Use a center punch to mark the Ball Joint's rivets attached to the Control Arm before drilling a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) deep hole in each rivet with a 3.175 mm (1/8 inch) drill. Finish by drilling away the rivet heads with a 12.7 mm (1/2 inch) drill while punching out the rivets with a small punch. Push the Ball Joint separator (J 23742) between the Ball Joint and Steering Knuckle to allow removal of the Ball Joint by extracting the Ball Joint stud from the knuckle. Apply the new upper Ball Joint to the upper Control Arm by attaching it with four bolts and nuts before tightening the retaining nuts to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Attach the upper Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle then tighten the retaining nut to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Insert a fresh cotter pin through the nut into the stud hole and bend the pin to maintain the installation. Application of the grease fitting should be followed by lubrication of the Ball Joint when needed. The wheel speed sensor harness bracket's nut and bolt require tightening to 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) before replacing the front brake caliper, tire, and wheel. Finish by taking out the safety stands from the vehicle next to checking the front wheel alignment after lowering the vehicle.
