GMC Savana 2500 Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the lower control arm ball joint on GMC Savana 2500?
A: Raise the vehicle for access and support it. Then pull off the tire and wheel. Take out the lower Control Arm from its position. Mount the lower Control Arm in the bench vice and tap it with a chisel to take out its four metal clamps from the joint body. A mechanical press tool will push out the Ball Joint at its lower Control Arm attachment point. Insert the Ball Joint by pressing it through the outer flange of the joint. Place the new Ball Joint into the press and put the lower Control Arm back into the bench vice. Insert 4 new crimps into the Ball Joint body using the old one as a guide and a punch tool. Put back the lower Control Arm before placing the tire and wheel. To complete the job lower the vehicle and confirm the wheel alignment is correct.
