- Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2001 GMC Yukon XL 1500?A: The first step for positive Battery Cable replacement starts with negative cable disconnection followed by positive cable cap removal before positive cable removal but the cable bolt remains fixed to the battery. The bolt securing the positive cable at the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) can be loosened. Engine sight shield removal should be performed only if the bolt's removal is necessary. Remove the positive Battery Cable from the junction block by snapping off the junction block cover and removing the positive cable first and then taking off the negative cable from the positive cable clip. The buyer must first safely support the car while removing the bolt for the positive Battery Cable channel and pulling out the channel pin from the Oil Pan tab to detach the channel from the cable. Proceed by removing the Battery Cable bracket bolt and bracket at the Power Steering Pump then the starter lead nut and positive cable from the starter assembly. First uninstall the positive cable clip from the Oil Pan clip before you remove the cable from its pan mounting location. The installation process begins with attaching the positive Battery Cable while next you attach the positive cable to the clip on the Oil Pan and finally securing the positive cable clip to the same clip on the Oil Pan. The starter needs the positive cable secured by tightening the starter lead nut until it reaches 9 n.m (80 lb in). The Battery Cable bracket needs to be installed along with its bolt before tightening the Battery Cable bracket bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Secure the positive Battery Cable into position before placing the channel pin inside the Oil Pan tab. Fasten the positive Battery Cable channel bolt and tight it to 12 n.m (106 lb in). The vehicle needs to be lowered before attaching the negative cable clip to the positive cable clip and placing the positive cable into the junction block while securing the junction block cover. Reinstall the engine sight shield before you tighten the positive cable bolt at the ubec to 9 n.m (80 lb in). First connect the positive Battery Cable then tighten the bolt of the positive cable to 17 n.m (13 lb ft), finally secure the positive cable cap before connecting the negative Battery Cable.
