2002 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2002 Cadillac Seville?
A: To replace the right Timing Chain, firstly, it will be used to remove the right Timing Chain tensioner, Camshaft Position Sensor and the right Camshaft. Make sure that both Camshaft sprocket drive pins are on top of their rotation. The Camshaft holding tool must be used with caution. Mount the Camshaft holding tool (J44212) over the camshafts and remove the mechanics wire with the right timing processing shoe. Then pry off the engine front cover bolt and use an open end on the hex cast into the Camshaft to keep the right exhaust sprocket bolt from rotating while it is removed. Pull off the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket from the Camshaft and take off the right Timing Chain from the Camshaft sprocket teeth, removing it from the Camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth before removing it from the engine. Clean and inspect the components of the Camshaft timing drive. For installation push the right Timing Chain down into the right Cylinder Head, onto the right intake Camshaft sprocket, lead it around the outer row of the Camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Mount the appropriate exhaust Camshaft sprocket on the right Timing Chain and on the Camshaft with the sprocket notch marked re locking on to the exhaust Camshaft pin. Then use the open end wrench once more in order to block rotation when tightening the Camshaft sprocket bolt an additional 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Fit the correct Timing Chain tensioner, remove the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) and the final step involves fitting the right Camshaft cover and the Camshaft position sensor.
