2003 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2003 Cadillac Seville?
A: To dismantle the left Timing Chain, you begin by getting rid of the right Timing Chain, and now you would get rid of the left Timing Chain Tensioner, and lastly, the left camshaft cover. Make sure that the top of each rotation is the camshaft sprocket drive pins. Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) be installed over camshafts; use an open end wrench on hex cast into camshaft; prevent rotation while left intake camshaft sprocket bolt removal is in progress. Take off the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt, slide the left intake camshaft sprocket off the camshaft and take the left Timing Chain off from the sprocket teeth. Lift the left Timing Chain off the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth and take off the sprocket from the engine. Clean and inspect the components of the camshaft timing drive. For installation, slide the left Timing Chain up through the left cylinder head and onto the left exhaust camshaft sprocket, routing it around the inner row of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Replace the left intake camshaft sprocket to the left Timing Chain and to the camshaft ensuring that sprocket notch marked li matches with intake camshaft pin. Working with the open end wrench once again to avoid rotation, tighten the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Once you have removed the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) from the camshafts, then you can install the left camshaft cover and the left Timing Chain Tensioner, and after toll install the right Timing Chain.
