- Q: How to replace the right camshaft on 2003 Cadillac Seville?A: To replace the right Camshaft one should start removing the right Camshaft cover as well as the Camshaft Position Sensor. Rotate the Crankshaft to tdc of the #1 cylinder's compression stroke using the Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946), ensuring both Camshaft sprocket drive pins are at the top of their rotation. Place the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) over the Camshaft, using an open wrench hex cast incised in the camshafts so that the Camshaft sprocket bolt does not rotate. After that, place the secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture (J 44213) on the front rail of the Cylinder Head, take out the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe access plug, and loosen the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe bolt two full turns. Slide the intake into and exhaust Camshaft sprockets onto the j 44213 alternative loosen the Camshaft bearing caps bolts till all the valve spring pressure would be released and then withdraws the Camshaft bearing caps and the camshafts. Clean and inspect camshafts prior to applying the lubricant gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent to the roller pivot pocket and valve slot areas of the Camshaft followers. Put on Camshaft followers on the valve tips and static hydraulic lash adjusters while ensuring alignment. Clean the Camshaft carriers and lubricate the Camshaft carriers, Camshaft lobes and journals of the Camshaft. Position the Camshaft in the Camshaft carriers with the sprocket drive pins close to their tops of rotation reference to the markings on the Camshaft bearing caps to facilitate proper installation. Lubricate the Camshaft bearing caps and mount them based on the identification marks and further torque the boltes sequentially to 5 nm (44 inch lbs) and an additional 30 degrees using the torque angle/meter (J36660-A). Write the camshafts and put the j 44212 over them, making sure to engage with the sprocket drive pins. Sliding Camshaft sprockets off the j44213 and onto the Camshaft, tighten the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe bolt of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs) and the access plug of 4.5 nm (40 inch lbs). Carefully shelf the j 44213 while keeping holding the Camshaft sprockets on the camshafts. Then tighten the Camshaft sprocket bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. L. B.) with an open wrench to stop any rotation. Check Camshaft sprocket alignment, remove the j 44212, reinstall the Camshaft Position Sensor, and finally, install right Camshaft cover.
