2004 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right camshaft on 2004 Cadillac Seville?
A: Starting right Camshaft replacement requires users to take off the right Camshaft cover together with the Camshaft Position Sensor. Prior to positioning the Crankshaft at the top dead center of compression in the #1 cylinder ensure that both Camshaft sprocket drive pins sit in their highest rotational position. Secure the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) above the camshafts as you position a paint stick to mark the Timing Chain links situated near the Camshaft sprocket timing marks. Position the main body of the Timing Chain retention tool (EN 46327) against the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket and adjacent chain then rotate the wing nut toward the top of its travel. The hook end of the tool should be inserted into a secondary Timing Chain link while rotating the wing nut to reach the retention tool block without making any tightening adjustments. Retain the chain using the retention tool by inserting first the lower component by the right intake Camshaft sprocket followed by alternate tightening of both wing nuts. Start by applying an open wrench to the hex cast found in the camshafts to prevent rotation before removing the Camshaft sprocket bolts. Then remove the Camshaft sprockets followed by alternately loosening the Camshaft bearing cap bolts until all valve spring pressure is eliminated. Unload the bearing caps together with the Camshaft holding tool j 44212 and camshafts and followers and clean all parts for examination. To install the Camshaft followers use lubricant gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent on their roller pivot pocket and valve slot areas before placing them properly on the valve tip and stationary hydraulic lash adjusters (SHLA). Apply lubricant to all components of the Camshaft carriers and Camshaft lobes and Camshaft journals before placing the Camshaft inside its carriers. Install the Camshaft inside Camshaft carriers so the sprocket drive pins face the top of their rotation while staying in neutral position according to Camshaft bearing caps markings. Lubricate the Camshaft bearing caps before installation according to their identification marks while tightening the bearing cap bolts to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) and then turning an additional 30 degrees using the angle meter (J 45059). Position the sprockets of the camshafts correctly and install the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) while making sure the sprocket-drive pins maintain proper contact with each other. Use an open wrench to immobilize Camshaft sprockets while installing them onto their positions. Then thread the bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Then remove the Timing Chain retention tool (EN 46327) before confirming the Camshaft sprocket alignment using proper tools to remove the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) and place the Camshaft Position Sensor as well as the right Camshaft cover.
