2004 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2004 Cadillac Seville?
A: The Drive Belt should be taken off first before raising and supporting the vehicle. Start by taking off the right front wheel and both front fascia extension parts from the wheelhouse together with the engine Oil Pan bracket which joins to the transaxle case and finally remove the torque converter cover. After placing the flywheel holder (J 44214) install the Crankshaft balancer bolt for removal. The engine assembly requires a suitable jack support while you detach the nut holding the right Engine Mount to the right Engine Mount Bracket. Position the Crankshaft balancer remover (J 41816) underneath the body rail through the lowered engine assembly before inserting the pilot of the j 41816 into the Crankshaft end to remove the Crankshaft balancer. The technician should inspect and clean the Crankshaft balancer before installing it on the Crankshaft nose. Novel the Crankshaft balancer installer (J 41998-B) to secure the Crankshaft balancer in place and treat the bolt threads of the Crankshaft balancer with engine oil before application. Slip the Crankshaft balancer bolt into position then follow by tightness to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) across the first round followed by 120 degrees additional torque using an angle meter (J 45059). Position the engine assembly correctly for nut installation which mounts the right engine to its bracket until torqued to 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the torque converter cover together with the Oil Pan to transaxle brace through torque settings at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). You will install the front fascia extension to the wheelhouse followed by the right front wheel then drop the vehicle to install the Drive Belt.
