- Q: How to set the camshaft timing after the camshaft drive system has been disturbed on 2002 Cadillac Seville?A: Setting the Camshaft timing becomes vital whenever disturbances occur with the Camshaft drive system. The necessary steps include removing the left Camshaft cover, right Camshaft cover, engine front cover, three chain tensioners, and Oil Pump. The primary and secondary chain guides require installation when they were detached. The Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) enables the rotation of the Crankshaft to reach a position where the sprocket drive key faces approximately 1 o'clock. Install the Crankshaft together with intermediate shaft sprockets into the primary drive chain by positioning their timing marks as neighbors. Rotate the Crankshaft through the sprocket drive key while using the Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) to prevent any modification of the sprocket timing marks alignment. Fasten the Camshaft intermediate sprocket bolt as you torque it to a force of 60 nm and ft. Lbs torque. Connect the primary Camshaft drive chain tensioner before torquing its bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) while maintaining vertical alignment of the timing marks. Lock the Crankshaft in position with the assistance of the flywheel holder (J 44214). The secondary drive chain of the lh cylinder head should run along the interior row of intermediate shaft teeth with the re Camshaft sprocket covering the Camshaft position sensor pickup. The exhaust Camshaft sprocket installation must be done with the Camshaft drive pin connecting to the le marked notch of the sprocket while making sure there's no excess chain length. Install the intake Camshaft sprocket with the sprocket notch ll aligned to the Camshaft drive pin in a position perpendicular to the cylinder head surface. First install the exhaust and intake Camshaft sprocket retainer bolts loosely while adding the secondary Camshaft drive chain tensioner. Tighten all these bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and the Camshaft sprocket bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Repetitions of the right-side Camshaft routing and installation will take place while ensuring that the re sprocket includes the Camshaft position sensor pick-up. Last, follow up by installing the Oil Pump together with engine front cover alongside right Camshaft cover and left Camshaft cover.
