The right Camshaft replacement process begins with removing both the right Camshaft cover together with the Camshaft Position Sensor. Use the Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) to rotate the Crankshaft into tdc of the #1 compression stroke for both Camshaft sprocket drive pins to reach their highest point of rotation. You will need the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) to go over the camshafts during bolt removal of the Camshaft sprocket. Using an open wrench tool on the hex cast of the camshafts prevents Camshaft rotation. Replace the Camshaft sprocket bolts with secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture (J 44213) which gets installed on the cylinder head front rail. Use a socket wrench to loosen the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe bolt two whole turns after removing its right access plug. Set the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets onto the pins which are installed on the j 44213 device. Attache the Camshaft followers directly on the valve tips together with the stationary hydraulic lash adjusters (SHLA). Clean the Camshaft carriers before applying lubricant gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent which will be distributed between the Camshaft carriers and Camshaft lobes as well as the Camshaft journals. Install the Camshaft inside the Camshaft carriers so that sprocket drive pins maintain position closest to the upper rotation yet the lobes lie in a neutral configuration which enables proper mark reading of Camshaft bearing caps. Follow the identification marks for installing bearing caps while lubricating them with gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent. Apply torque to bearing cap bolts to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) before additional 30 degrees tightening using the torque angle/meter (J 36660-A). The j 44212 should be replaced before placing it back over the camshafts to verify their sprockets engage properly. The technicians slide the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets off the j 44213 pins then onto the Camshaft pins before tightening the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and the access plug to 4.5 nm (40 inch lbs.). The procedure requires you to conduct the j 44213 removal while keeping tight control on the Camshaft sprockets against the camshafts before installing the Camshaft sprocket bolts with an open wrench until they reach 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). The Camshaft sprocket alignment should be verified while the technician removes j 44212 then puts back the Camshaft Position Sensor followed by right Camshaft cover installation.
