- Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2000 Cadillac Seville?A: A replacement of the Camshaft requires the following set of tools: j 36660-a (Torque Angle/Meter) j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) and j 44213 (Secondary Drive Timing Chain/Sprocket Holding Fixture) make up the required toolkit. J 36660-a (Torque Angle/Meter), j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool), and j 44213 (Secondary Drive Timing Chain/Sprocket Holding Fixture). Begin by removing the appropriate Camshaft cover and rotating the Crankshaft to tdc of the #1 cylinder's compression stroke, ensuring both Camshaft sprocket drive pins are at the top of their rotation. Fix the j 44212 tool around the camshafts before removing the Camshaft sprocket bolts. Position the j 44213 fixture onto the front rail of the cylinder head followed by removing the secondary Camshaft drive chain guide upper bolt access plug. The j 44213 guide allows you to slide intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets onto its pins after loosening the upper secondary Camshaft chain guide bolt two turns. First loosen alternately the Camshaft bearing cap bolts until valve spring pressure ceases then remove the Camshaft bearing caps and j 44212 as well as the camshafts and Camshaft followers. Add gm p/n12345001 or equivalent lubricant liberally to the Camshaft follower areas which contain the roller pivot pocket and valve slot. Mount Camshaft followers correctly onto valve tips while aligning stationary hydraulic lash adjusters. Use a lint-free material to clean Camshaft carriers before adding lubricant to both carriers and Camshaft lobes and journals. Guide the Camshaft into its position in the Camshaft carriers while aligning sprocket drive pins at the top of their rotational path and lobes in natural resting stages. Verify the correct position using the identification marks on Camshaft bearing caps. Apply lubricant to all Camshaft bearing caps before installation. Follow the identification marks to place the caps correctly. Tighten each bolt successively to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) followed by additional 30-degree rotation using the j 36660-a. Proceed by reinstalling the j 44212 so that the camshafts remain in proper alignment while securing it around the sprocket drive pins. Slide the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets onto their respective Camshaft pins before tightening the secondary Camshaft drive chain guide upper bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque.reinstallation of the access plug requires torque to 4.5 nm (39 inch lbs.). Use special tool j 44213 to extract while maintaining sprocket-Camshaft contact at the same time install sprocket bolts and tighten to a torque of 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). After confirming the Camshaft sprocket alignment, remove the j 44212 from the camshafts before you install the Camshaft cover.
