• Q: How to service and repair the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and replace the Valve Stem Oil Seal on 2000 Cadillac Seville?

  A: You must first disassemble the camshafts and lift the vehicle to service the valve guide seal as well as to install new valve stem oil seal and valve spring components. Detach the engine Oil Pan brace that connects the transaxle case and then take off the torque converter cover. Fit the valve spring compressor model j 44214 into position and slowly lower the vehicle. Lower the vehicle onto the valve spring compressor base plate (J 44211) before you take out the Spark Plug from this cylinder. Place the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313) into the Spark Plug port and supply continuous airflow to hold the valve closed. Place the swivel nut over valve spring compressor j 44211 until you can access and remove the valve locks from the selected valve stud. Set up the valve spring compressor (J 44211) over the Spark Plug hole. Then apply constant air pressure before installing the arm and swivel nut over the valve spring retainer to prepare for removal. Install the valve stem seal remover & installer tool j 38820 and remove both the valve spring retainer and spring. Put clean engine oil on the valve stem and inside of the new seal. After that install a stem protector and apply the valve stem seal remover & installer (J 38820). Position the valve lock into place with the valve keeper installer tool before relaxing the nut torque on the valve spring compressor (J 44211). Use the valve keeper installer (J 43059) to place valve locks correctly and take out the swivel nut and arm of valve spring compressor (J 44211). Follow the same steps for each additional valve until you finish all service work and take the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313) from the Spark Plug opening. Insert the Spark Plug base plate of the valve compressor (J 44211) into its proper location. Restore camshafts to their positions before hoisting the vehicle and then putting back the torque converter cover through the flywheel holder removal. Last step is to put back the Oil Pan to its position on the transaxle brace while tightening the bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Then lower the vehicle.
