2001 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2001 Cadillac Seville?
A: The replacement process of the crankshaft balancer begins by removing the Drive Belt followed by lifting up the vehicle while providing support. The process begins with removing the right front wheel together with the front fascia extension from the wheelhouse and the engine Oil Pan link to transaxle case. Following these steps is the torque converter cover. Place the installer accessory known as "j44214" before eliminating the crankshaft balancer bolt. A proper engine-supporting jack enables you to remove the right Engine Mount nut that secures it to the right Engine Mount bracket. Then lower the engine assembly to expose space at the body rail level where the technician can position the crankshaft balancer remover (J 41816) to rotate out the crankshaft balancer through its pilot tip opening. Install the crankshaft balancer onto the crankshaft nose before securing it with the crankshaft balancer installer (J 41998-A). Prepare the threads of the crankshaft balancer bolt by cleaning them then apply engine oil to the threads. Begin installing the crankshaft balancer bolt while applying 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque during the first step followed by 120-degree additional tightening using the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) for the finishing act. First elevate the engine assembly and fasten the right Engine Mount bracket with its mounting nut while achieving 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.) of torque tension. Use the torque converter cover and Oil Pan to transaxle brace by performing bolt tightening at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The process ends with reinstallation of the front fascia extension followed by the right front wheel while lowering the vehicle before installing the Drive Belt.
