2004 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2004 Cadillac Seville?
A: When fitting a new left Timing Chain, first take off the right Timing Chain, removing the left Timing Chain Tensioner while also removing the left camshaft cover. Make sure that both pins of camshaft sprockets are located at the apex of rotation. One should be careful while using the camshaft holding tool. Position the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) over the camshafts and hold the left intake hex cast into the camshaft using an open end wrench, while removing the bolt of the left intake camshaft sprocket. Remove left intake camshaft sprocket bolt, slide off left intake camshaft sprocket from the camshaft, and remove left Timing Chain from the sprocket teeth. Raise the left Timing Chain off the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth and pry it off of the engine. Check and clean the camshaft timing drive components before installing them. To install the left Timing Chain go with the chain slid down through the left cylinder head, inserting that on the left exhaust camshaft sprocket and loop it around the inner row of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Put on the left intake camshaft sprocket into the left Timing Chain and onto the camshaft, noting that the camshaft sprocket notch which is marked li is in line with the intake camshaft pin. Employ an open end wrench around the hex into the camshaft to avoid rotation when clamping the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Remove the camshaft holding tool (J 44212), first from the camshafts, then the left camshaft cover, second left Timing Chain Tensioner, and thereafter, right Timing Chain.
