2004 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the right valve stem oil seal and valve spring on 2004 Cadillac Seville?
A: The proper tools needed to replace the right valve guide seal and valve spring are j 38820 (Valve Guide Seal Remover and Installer), j 39313 (Spark Plug Port Adapter), j 43059 (Valve Retainer Remover/Installer), j 44211 (On-Vehicle Valve Spring Compressor), and j 44214 (Flywheel Holder). Start by taking out the right camshafts then put the vehicle on supports for this operation. After loosening the connection between the engine Oil Pan and transaxle case you need to remove the torque converter cover. Place j 44214 installation equipment onto the object and place the vehicle on the ground. To stop dirt from entering the electrode area clean it before taking the Spark Plug out. Set up the j 44211 base plate for the Spark Plug hole of the serviced cylinder after taking out the Spark Plug. Push the j 39313 into the Spark Plug opening and keep the valve shut using continuous air pressure. Place the j 44211 arm and swivel nut on the matching valve stud then adjust the swivel nut until you can reach the valve locks. Secure the valve locks with a magnet and unzip the swivel nut. Move the arm apart to take out the valve spring retainer and spring. Insert the j 38820 to grasp and take out the old valve guide seal for examination while discarding it. Inspect the valve spring's condition. After oiling the new valve guide and seal with engine oil, put a seal protector on top then press the j 38820 tool to install the valve guide seal by twisting motion. Position the valve spring retainer and spring into place before swinging the tool arm back over them and fastening the swivel nut only enough to work on the valve locks. Place the valve locks with the j 43059 before you take off the j 44211 swivel nut assembly and arm. Lower air pressure and disconnect the j 39313 from the Spark Plug hole after removing the base plate of j 44211 to place your new Spark Plug. Follow these steps again to service any other cylinders in the process. Reposition the right camshafts, lift and stabilize the vehicle, disassemble the j 44214 part, attach the torque converter cover, and fasten Oil Pan to transaxle brace bolts at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque. Then put the vehicle back on the ground.
