• Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2004 Cadillac Seville?

  A: To remove the engine front cover, remove the drive belt tensioner first followed by the drive belt idler pulley bolt, then the idler pulley itself is removed. Then remove the crankshaft balancer as well as raise the vehicle while supporting the engine assembly adequate jack. Dismounted the nut securing the Engine Mount from the Engine Mount bracket & the nut securing the Power Steering Hose to the Engine Mount bracket. Then, remove bolts that attach the Engine Mount bracket on the engine, loosening the rest of the bolt so that you can have access to the engine front cover. Set the Engine Mount bracket aside and pull the bolts from the engine front cover along with the gasket that is reusable if intact. For installation, a sealant gm p/n 12345739 (Canadian P/N 10953472) should be applied to the split line of the upper and lower crankcases, the engine front cover gasket should be put over the crankcase dowel pins, and put the engine front cover on the crankcase. Mount the engine front cover retaining bolts and tighten them in the correct order for 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Reinstall the crankshaft balancer and the bolts that hold the Engine Mount bracket onto the engine, tightening them to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Next, install the nut that attaches the Power Steering Hose into the Engine Mount bracket and tighten it to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.), followed by the nut which attaches the Engine Mount to the Engine Mount bracket (which must be tightened to 80 Nm (59 ft. Lbs.). Finally, pull off the engine support jack, lower the vehicle, replace the drive belt idler pulley and the bolt, and then bolt it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) after replacing the drive belt tensioner.
