• Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2002 Chevrolet Impala?

  A: To change the battery negative cable, disconnect the negative cable then the positive cable. Now remove the ground wire bolt from the frame, also remove the ground wire from the frame as well as the remote positive stud cover. Then, take off the positive cable junction block lead nut and the positive battery cable from the under hood accessory wiring junction block. Lift and support the vehicle, then take off the front lower air deflector. Unscrew the positive battery cable nut from starter motor BAT terminal and pull the positive battery cable from starter motor BAT terminal. Unclip and remove the battery cable harness from the retainers (2,3,4) as well as remove the battery cable harness out of the vehicle. Stripping the negative battery cable from the wiring harness conduit. Initially, insert the negative battery cable into the wiring harness conduit and attach the battery cable harness to the retainers (2,3,4). Secure the positive battery cable to the starter motor BAT terminal, then connect the positive battery cable nut and tighten it to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Replace the front lower air deflector, set the vehicle down, and connect the positive cable to the under hood accessory wiring junction block. Screw the positive cable junction block lead nut and torque it 10 N.m (89 lb in). Replace the remote positive stud cover and install the ground wire and bolt to the frame and tighten the bolt up to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Finally, attach the positive battery cable and tighten its terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 ft lb), and connect the nays battery cable.
