2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: To replace the lower Intake Manifold disconnect the negative cable from the battery before starting your work. Consider the upper Intake Manifold, left and right valve Rocker Arm covers, and the breaking off the electrical connector of engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Second, we can disconnect and pull out the Fuel Injector and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor wiring harnesses, 3rd, then the fuel pipe clip bolt and clip. Purge the fuel feed and return pipes from the Fuel Injector rail and then extract the Fuel Injector rail. Replace the position of the Power Steering Pump after it has been removed from the front engine cover and also remove the heater inlet pipe with heater hose from the lower Intake Manifold. Remove the radiator inlet hose and the Thermostat bypass hose from their respective connections. Take out the lower intake bolts and the lower Intake Manifold, and the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals, and the valve Rocker Arm and the push rods. Clean the places of matting surfaces of the gasket all along with removing all the rtv sealant from the lower Intake Manifold and engine block. Disconnect the ect sensor and the water outlet bolts and take off the water outlet and Thermostat. To start with installation install the Thermostat and water outlet, pressing the water outlet bolts at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and the ect sensor at 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs). Apply a bead of about 8 - 12mm (0.08 - 0.11 inch) rtv sealer, gm p/n 12345739 canadian p/n 10953541 or equivalent on each ridge where the front and rear part of the lower Intake Manifold touches the engine block, then apply lower Intake Manifold gaskets. Reinstall the valve rocker arms and pushrods prior to the lower inlet manifold. It is necessary to apply sealant, gm p/n 12345382 canadian p/n 10953489 to the threads of the bolts and install new lower Intake Manifold bolts. A revision would be to refer to a revised updated torque specification. Tighten the vertical lower Intake Manifold bolts (the four middle ones) to 7 nm (62 lb in), then the diagonal lower Intake Manifold bolts (two ones each side) to 7 nm (62 lb in), after that tightening the vertical bolts to 13 nm (115 lb in) and diagonal bolts to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Reconnect the Thermostat bypass hose, radiator inlet hose, and heater inlet pipe to the lower Intake Manifold with heater hose. Replace those Power Steering Pump, fuel injector rail, fuel return pipe, and fuel feed pipe to the fuel inject rail, secure the fuel pipe clip and finish tightening the bolt to 8 nm (71 inch lbs). Reattach the Fuel Injector and MAP Sensor wiring harnesses, the ect sensor electric connector, and install the right and left valve Rocker Arm covers. Lastly, install the gmc quad vane turbine, connect the negative Battery Cable, and check for leaks.
