2002 Chevrolet S10 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in the HVAC system on 2002 Chevrolet S10?
A: The process of accumulator replacement in hvac systems begins with using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) for fitting leak tests after conducting a/c system refrigerant recovery. Start the process by taking off the a/c pressure switch for 4.3l vehicles then detach the accumulator to evaporator nut and the compressor hose assembly from the accumulator. After discarding the o-ring seals the technician removes the accumulator by unscrewing its clamp bolt. The new accumulator installation requires users to position the part in the clamp while tightening the clamp bolt at 10 n.m (88 lb in). To install the compressor hose assembly you must first put on the a/c low pressure switch along with new o-ring seals then attach the assembly to the accumulator by torquing the suction hose retaining nut to 48 n.m (35 lb in). Tighten the accumulator to evaporator retaining nut until it reaches 28 n.m (21 lb ft). The last step requires connecting the electrical connector to the 4.3l a/c pressure switch before evacuating and recharging the entire a/c system.
