2002 Chevrolet Tracker Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2002 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: You must disable the battery before attempting to replace the negative cable. Replacing the negative and positive battery cables should be done as a complete harness assembly where the replacement cable must exactly match original types and dimensions while maintaining identical routing of ground leads and connective wires. Start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable at its terminal then proceed to detach the positive Battery Cable from its terminal. You need to first take out the harness retainers along with the three bolts that secure the Fuse Box to the right inner fender and the ground bolt from the bulkhead. Unfasten the two bolts and battery positive wires from the Fuse Box while being mindful of maintaining the proper terminal arrangement for restoration. The right Engine Mount requires bolt and harness clamp removal followed by generator nut along with battery positive wire removal after which Starter nut and battery positive wire should be removed. First detach the Starter upper mounting bolt along with the ground wire and pull out the battery harness from the vehicle. Position the battery harness back into the vehicle but start with securement of the Starter upper mounting bolt followed by the ground wire and finish with the installation of the battery positive wire to the Starter using the nut. Secure the battery positive wire to the generator by using a nut followed by installing the harness clamp onto the right Engine Mount and fixing it with a bolt. Renavigate battery positive wires through the Fuse Box port and check terminal placements before fastening the Fuse Box to right inner fender using three bolts. Reinstall the bulkhead ground wire after securing the harness retainers while following the process of connecting the positive Battery Cable to the positive terminal. End the procedure by connecting the negative Battery Cable to the negative battery terminal and tightening both Battery Cable-to-battery terminal connections to 15 n.m (11 lb ft).
