2003 Chevrolet Tracker Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2003 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: The first step to replace the battery positive cable requires removal of the negative Battery Cable from its terminal while you observe battery disconnect safety procedures. The battery cables operate as a single harness system so you should replace them with identical cables matching original dimensions and specifications since some positive cables may include extra feeding wires and negative cables may need extra grounding wires. The new cable must follow the identical path that was used by the original item. Starting with positive Battery Cable removal from the terminal, proceed to extract the bulkhead ground bolt before moving onto harness retainers. Unbolt the Fuse Box from the right inner fender using the three retaining bolts before disconnecting its two bolts, battery positive wires and logging their proper installation order. First remove the bolt combined with harness clamp from the right Engine Mount before taking off the nut and battery positive wire from the generator next to the nut from the Starter and its battery positive wire. Detach the Starter upper mounting bolt and ground wire before pulling out the battery harness from the car. Installation begins with connecting the battery harness to the vehicle while also completing the steps of installing the Starter upper mounting bolt alongside the ground wire. Fasten the battery positive wire to the Starter by attaching the nut before linking the wire to the generator and securing it with another nut. The right Engine Mount should receive the harness clamp with its bolt for securing before connecting battery positive wires to the Fuse Box while properly routing terminals and using the three bolts to fix the Fuse Box to the right inner fender. Begin wiring the ground wire at the bulkhead position before attaching harness retainers followed by positive Battery Cable installation to the positive battery terminal and finishing with negative Battery Cable installation at the negative battery terminal. The Battery Cable-to-battery terminal connection requires tightening to a torque value of 15 n.m (11 lb ft).
