2003 Buick Century Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2003 Buick Century?
A: Start by collecting the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) tool to replace the vacuum Brake Booster. You need to take out the left instrument panel insulator first before disconnecting the stoplamp switch electrical connector. To begin the work unlock the Brake Booster pushrod retainer and disconnect the Brake Booster press rod from the Brake Pedal. Drain a part of the cooling system then detach the cross vehicle brace and air cleaner inlet duct from the engine. Remove fuel system pressure and disconnect all three fuel pipes that attach to the evap canister purge valve. Position the pipes outside the work area. Detach the bypass hoses from both coolant inlet and outlet connections and take off the heat exchanger pipe. To reach better engine regions you need to turn the engine forward before removing the brake fluid sensor electric linkage. You do not need to remove the brake pipes from the master cylinder area to the bpmv. Taking off the two retaining nuts frees up the master cylinder which now waits for setup. Pull the vacuum Brake Booster check valve connection from the booster system while keeping its attached hose attached. Use the master cylinder retaining nuts to attach the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) to the booster and then use a flat tool to press the Brake Booster locking tab while turning the booster counterclockwise with a ratchet on the holder. Remove the vacuum Brake Booster. Install the new vacuum Brake Booster on the cowl by turning it counterclockwise to lock its flange pair until the locking tab snaps into place. Twist the vacuum Brake Booster clockwise using only the ratchet on power Brake Booster holder j 22805-b. Reconnect the vacuum hose and check valve assembly after you detach the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B). Attach the master cylinder to the booster then install its retainer nuts with torque specified at 25. Reposition the engine while connecting the brake fluid sensor electrical wire. Put the engine back to its regular position and install both engine mount struts. Connect the heater inlet hose then reconnect both coolant bypass pipes and other tubing including the evap purge valve section, fuel feeds, and returns. Complete the installation by adding the air cleaner inlet duct, putting on the cross vehicle brace, filling the cooling system, connecting the brake pushrod to the Brake Pedal, putting on the retaining clip, joining the stoplamp switch wires, and replacing the left instrument panel insulator.
