Brake Booster

A vital process for replacing a vacuum Brake Booster begins with checking that the cruise control cable remains free of pinching between the booster and cowl because any damage could occur. First disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Better access to the installation arises from rotating the engine forward although brake lines extending from master cylinder to brake modulator do not need removal. Begin by removing the master cylinder mounting nuts followed by unbolted brake modulator attachment from shock tower and electrical connection detaching. The Brake Booster should have its vacuum hose disconnected next. Prior to disconnecting the Pushrod from the Brake Pedal keep pressure on the Brake Pedal to protect the brake switch. Screw the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-01) to the booster and tighten the nuts to a torque of 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). The dash-mounted booster unlocks through the front while a flat-bladed tool pulls the locking tab out of its mounting flange notch. Simultaneously use a wrench on the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-01) to turn the booster counterclockwise. Remove the Pushrod from the eyehole while taking care to protect the insulator boot before removing the booster. To mount the new booster insert the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-01) and fasten all nuts tightly at 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Put the booster at the cowl counterclockwise to align its locking flanges before tightening the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-01) with a wrench for the locking tab to snap in place. Connect the Brake Booster Pushrod to the Brake Pedal and attach both a vacuum hose and master cylinder. The brake modulator must be reinstalled after reconnecting the vehicle electrical connection. Follow by rotating the engine to its original position then adjust the stoplamp switch and lastly restore the negative Battery Cable.

The power Brake Booster holder j22805-b should be your first tool to gather. Take off the left side instrument panel insulator and detach the stoplamp switch electrical connector. First take off the pushrod retainer and separate the Brake Booster pushrod from the brake pedal. Then remove the cross vehicle brace and fuel injector sight shield. Unplug the Brake Fluid Level Sensor using proper tools but keep brake pipes attached to the master cylinder. Unthread the two retaining nuts and properly place the master cylinder away. Unplug the vacuum Brake Booster check valve assembly and keep it together with the vacuum hose as you disconnect it. Unplug the throttle and cruise control wires from the Throttle Body before taking out the throttle bracket together with throttle and cruise control cables. Move the motor to its ideal position before pulling apart the EGR Valve wiring harness shield and its associated components. Take off the transmission fluid filler tube bracket retainer and secure the filler tube during work. Place the j 22805-b holder over the Brake Booster then affix it with master cylinder locking nuts. Gently unlock the booster from the cowl front and turn the booster counterclockwise with a flat-bladed tool while rotating the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B). Remove the vacuum Brake Booster. To install the new vacuum Brake Booster, place it on the cowl with locking flanges engaged and turn clockwise using a ratchet on the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) without using any flat-bladed tools. After installing the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) you can take it out of place. Place back the transmission fluid filler tube bracket keeper then adjust the filler tube and heat shield of EGR Valve wires. Secure the heat shield bolt and nut to 10 nm torque. Lower the engine back to its factory position and attach both engine mount struts on their left and right sides. After placing the throttle assembly in its correct position you can install the cables to the Throttle Body. Reattach the vacuum hose and check valve to the booster unit then place the master cylinder on top before tightening its retaining nuts to 25 nm force. Connect the brake fluid sensor power wire while also placing the fuel sight shield and cross vehicle frame support before joining the brake pushrod to the pedal with its clip. Complete the process by connecting the stoplamp switch and putting back the instrument panel cover.

Start your vacuum Brake Booster replacement work using the power Brake Booster holder part number j 22805-b. Take out the left instrument panel insulator before disconnecting the stoplamp switch electrical connection. Unclip the Brake Booster release as you remove its pushrod connection from the brake pedal. Then take out the cross vehicle brace and fuel injector sight shield. Unplug the Brake Fluid Level Sensor power feed without detaching master cylinder pipes from the brake pressure modulator valve. Unthread the two master cylinder holding nuts and place the unit to one side. Take the vacuum Brake Booster check valve and install its components together on the hose. Take the throttle and cruise control cables from the Throttle Body and pull out the throttle bracket along with both cables. Set them aside in their assembly. Turn the engine forward for greater reach before taking out the EGR Valve wiring shield and valve. Take off the transmission filler tube bracket retainer and put it aside with its component. Thread the power Brake Booster holder j 22805-b through the Brake Booster master cylinder nuts. Twist the booster counterclockwise using the holder tool while pressing the locking tab on its front section with a flatbladed tool. Remove the vacuum Brake Booster. Position the new vacuum Brake Booster onto the cowl counterclockwise to activate its locking features and then rotate it clockwise with the ratchet on the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) without using a flat-bladed tool. After placing the vacuum Brake Booster in position you must take out the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) install the transmission fluid filler tube bracket retainer and adjust the filler tube back into its original position. Secure the EGR Valve plus its electrical connections shield with a heat shield nut and bolt that must tighten to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Place the engine back to its normal position and put both engine mounted on the left and right sides into place. Put the Throttle Body cables back in position before connecting both throttle and cruise control cables. Reposition the master cylinder onto the booster and then connect its retaining nuts while tightening them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Connect the brake fluid sensor to electrical power and add back the fuel injector shield along with the connecting device. Close by connecting the Brake Booster pushrod to the brake pedal while adding the retaining clip. At the same time, install and connect the stoplamp switch electrical connector then reinsert the left instrument panel insulator.

The first step to install a new Brake Booster is to remove the fuel injector sight shield. You should not detach brake lines both from the master cylinder or brake modulator in vehicles fitted with abs. When working on abs systems first remove the brake modulator then the master cylinder. Begin by taking off both the transmission fluid filler tube as well as the egr heat shield. Hold the Brake Pedal secure to protect the brake switch during Pushrod removal from the Brake Pedal. Pull out the Brake Booster Pushrod from the Brake Pedal while disconnecting its vacuum line at the Brake Booster. Secure the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-01) to the booster using nuts and torque them to 20 foot-pound force. Push the locking tab away from the dash while counterclockwise turning the booster with the j 22805-01 wrench after unlocking and using a flat bladed tool. Before you take off the booster disconnect the Pushrod from the Brake Pedal and keep the insulator boot intact on the dash front. Install the power Brake Booster holder onto the new booster by fixing the holder nuts at 27 nm torque (20 ft. Lbs.). Insert the Pushrod eye into the designated hole taking care to protect the insulator boot at the front of the dash. Slowly fit the booster into the mounting while facing counterclockwise to let its locking tabs connect to booster and mounting fixtures. Lock the booster flanges and tab spots completely before turning the part clockwise using the wrench on the j22805-01. Never insert a screwdriver in the locking tab during installation. The correct installation lets the locking tab glide upwards to fit securely in the locking notch. Fasten the Brake Booster Pushrod to the Brake Pedal and reconnect the vacuum hose at its specified location on the Brake Booster. Also put back the transmission fluid filler tube and the egr heat shield. After installing both items fit the brake modulator immediately followed by the master cylinder. Reinstall the fuel injector sight shield after all steps are complete.

Disconnect the coolant outlet and inlet bypass hoses, and remove the heater inlet pipe.

Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve pipe, fuel feed pipe, and return pipe, positioning them aside.
