2003 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the engine flywheel on 2003 Buick Century?
A: The service and repair process for the engine Flywheel starts with automatic transaxle removal. The Flywheel holder (J 37096) enables safe securement of the Flywheel while blocking crankshaft rotation to loosen the six Flywheel bolts. Grip the Flywheel for removal of the last bolt by rotating the crankshaft 180 degrees clockwise to expose the top bolt. After removing five bolts work on the remaining bolt without dropping the Flywheel. Initiate service by removing both the engine Flywheel retainer and the Flywheel before cleaning the bolt threads as well as the holes. To reinstall the Flywheel system put the Flywheel together with its retainer by gripping them using the Flywheel holder (J 37096). Follow the installation procedure by putting in the engine Flywheel bolts which need to be torqued to 71 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). A dial indicator placed on the engine block should measure the Flywheel runout at three attaching bosses to determine if the condition demands replacement of the engine Flywheel. Finally, reinstall the automatic transaxle.
